If you’re blowing through plasma cutter tips like they’re lollies at the dairy, something’s up.
And most of the time?
It’s not the machine.
It’s not the brand.

● Wrecks the swirl ring
● Turns a brand-new set into scrap in seconds
If sparks aren’t coming out the bottom cleanly, you’re feeding molten steel back into the torch.
Fix:
Start from the edge.
Angle the torch slightly.
Wait until sparks are clearly exiting underneath. Then straighten up.
You’re Treating Piercing Like Normal Cutting
Piercing is brutal.
Cutting along an edge? Easy.
Standing in the middle of thick plate and trying to blast straight through it on a small machine?
That’s consumable suicide.
Options:
● Drill a pilot hole
● Start from an edge
● Or accept you’re pushing the machine
Torch Height — Stop Mixing This Up
Pilot arc torch → small gap.
Scratch start torch → needs contact.
Mix that up and you’ll fight the machine all day.
You’re Running Full Noise on Everything
3mm sheet at full amps?
All you’re doing is cooking tips.
Match amps to thickness.
Your Air Setup Is Rubbish
Bad air kills consumables.
Moisture.
Pressure drop.
Tiny compressors.
All bad.
Long, Skinny Extension Leads
Voltage drop.
Weak arc.
Short heavy lead = better cuts.
